Why Stanthorpe is worth putting on your list

There’s been some pretty exciting news around the Granite Belt lately with Stanthorpe named Australia’s Top Tourism Town for 2026, taking out the national title after earlier being named Queensland’s Top Tourism Town. It’s a wonderful recognition of a place we’re pretty lucky to call home — and one we think visitors have plenty of reasons to discover.

What makes Stanthorpe worth visiting?

For a start, it’s not quite the Queensland you might expect. The Granite Belt sits at a higher elevation than much of the state, bringing cooler temperatures and four distinct seasons. There’s fresh local produce, artisan food, granite landscapes, national parks, country drives, friendly locals and plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore. Wine is a pretty big part of the story too. The Granite Belt is Queensland’s premier wine region and home to a growing collection of wineries and cellar doors — that makes it a great place for a weekend away, because you can mix up your days rather than spending the whole time doing one thing.

Wine, food and experiences

Here at ridgemill estate, we’re lucky enough to be part of the Granite Belt wine story. And — if you just want to stay to kick back and relax, our Cabins in the Vineyard mean you can wake up right among the vines.

A little more recognition for ridgemill estate

There’s been some good news for us alongside Stanthorpe’s national win. The Granite Belt’s wineries have been making their mark at the Queensland Wine Awards, with ridgemill estate bringing home 2 Golds, 6 Silvers and 5 Bronzes in 2026. It’s a pretty great result and a reflection of our team’s commitment to excellence in the vineyard and winery. We’re also thrilled to have been named a finalist in two categories in the 2026 Queensland Tourism Awards for our Winery and Cabins in the Vineyard. The Winery finalist spot is a bit of a biggie for us, as it’s the first time we’ve been shortlisted in that category. It’s lovely recognition for the people behind ridgemill estate and for everything that happens here among the vines.
