Harvest Season on the Granite Belt — and the Pick Crush Plunge Experience
It’s harvest time across the Granite Belt — a time when the winemaker’s sleep schedule collapses and coffee becomes a food group!
Vineyards hum with activity and at the cellar door conversation often turns to “what’s being picked?” and “what’s going on out there in the vineyard?”
This is Granite Belt wine country at its most authentic and it is the most intense and important part of the year in a winemaker’s calendar.
Much of this work happens behind the scenes and most people only encounter wine once it’s finished, bottled, labelled and ready to drink, with little connection to the process that brought it there.
A Rare Chance to Step into Harvest
The Pick Crush Plunge experience offered by ridgemill estate grew out of a desire to bridge that gap.
It opens the door to harvest, giving people the chance to get hands on in the vineyard and winery and to see for themselves, the science behind turning grapes into wine — all while learning from a true winemaking expert.
What the Day Involves
- Picking grapes in the vineyard
- Crushing fruit (yes, foot stomping is involved!)
- Plunging fermenting reds (building muscles you didn’t know you had)
- Learning the science and techniques behind making beautiful wine
You’ll spend a fun and interactive morning with ridgemill estate’s winemaker Peter McGlashan. Morning tea is provided, followed by a guided wine tasting. As a bonus, participants receive 10% off cellar door wine purchases on the day.
Food, Wine and Twilight Dinner
As twilight rolls in, the experience concludes with a three course dinner themed “Under the Tuscan Sky”, celebrating local produce thoughtfully paired with ridgemill estate wines — shared with the people who make them and the people who love them.
And here’s a special touch: the wine you help create!
Participants receive a complimentary bottle of the Pick Crush Plunge wine once it’s released.
