Ridgemill Estate, Winemaker Peter McGlashan Honoured with Samuel Bassel Award for Outstanding Contribution to Queensland Wine
Ridgemill Estate is proud to celebrate its winemaker, Peter McGlashan, who has been awarded the prestigious Samuel Bassel Award at the 41st Queensland Wine Awards. This award recognises individuals who have made a lasting and exceptional contribution to the Queensland wine industry.
Peter, who has been shaping the wines of ridgemill estate for over 21 years, describes his journey into winemaking as a perfect blend of passion and fate. His introduction to the craft was a steady, hands on learning process.
“One foot in front of the other, one step at a time. I learnt basic hands on skills in the beginning on the job, progressed to a TAFE course and then enrolled in a bachelor of technology (wine) at USQ. I have had hard days at work, but I haven’t worked a day in that time – I love what I do!
Reflecting on his award, Peter says he is humbled by the recognition: “It’s an honour to receive the Samuel Bassel Award and be acknowledged for my contribution to Queensland wine.”
Visitors to ridgemill estate often encounter Peter in the cellar door, the vineyard, or during one of the winery’s popular Winemaker Tasting Experiences, where he shares his expertise and passion for Queensland wine.
